LinkedIn and its importance to your future…

We have all heard of the power of social networking sites, but are you truly aware of all they can do for you?  The key in using social media is using it for social networking purposes.  Now you’re thinking, “Well this sounds like a plug for LinkedIn.” Well, honestly it is. LinkedIn is known as “the professional networking site” but now more than ever it is being used for recruitment purposes.  What does this mean for you?  Well if you don’t have a profile, you need to make one right now! The sooner you get on….the better.

Let’s explore how LinkedIn can benefit you…

  1. The website lets you find other business associates, clients, and colleagues whom you already know. You “connect” with them through the site, and they then become part of your network.

  2. Once you’ve connected with a person, you will then have access to their list of connections – called your “extended network.” You can also request an introduction to people in your extended network through your mutual contact.

  3. LinkedIn also allows for other features including the ability to set up and join groups and even a jobs section where members can advertise open positions or apply for jobs.

That last sentence it what YOU should focus on.  This is the new place to post jobs.  So – students and alumni alike – if you do not already have a LinkedIn profile, set one up! You have nothing to lose and more than enough to gain!

Just go to: and sign up today. And don’t worry: the basic website (which is all you need) is free of charge.
